Authorities remain relentless in their efforts to eradicate marijuana plantations across the mountainous region of Cordillera, especially as the rainy season promotes the natural growth of the illegal plants.

In a recent operation, the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) burned over ₱72 million worth of marijuana in Saclit, Sadanga, Mt. Province.

In an interview with Bombo Radyo Baguio, Police Lieutenant Peter Apangcay, Deputy Police Community Affairs and Development Unit and Information Officer of the Mt. Province Police Office, authorities discovered the massive plantation during a routine patrol.

Officers found an open hut containing 500 kilos of dried marijuana leaves and stalks, and uncovered a 2,500-square-meter field with 62,500 fully grown marijuana plants valued at ₱72.5 million.

Despite the substantial discovery, no individuals or cultivators were apprehended during the raid.

Lt. Apangcay explained that parts of the Cordillera mountains naturally regenerate marijuana, especially in areas previously used for cultivation.

He added that the frequent rains in the region have contributed to the proliferation of these plants.

Apangcay assured the public that authorities will not stop conducting marijuana eradication operations. He emphasized the importance of their mission, noting the harmful impact of marijuana on the youth.

Recently, three drug personalities were apprehended in Tabuk City, Kalinga, after attempting to transport over ₱23 million worth of marijuana bricks out of the area.
