Miracles happen, indeed!
Academy Award winner Anne Hathaway breaks the internet after posting an Instagram video of her reacting “Shut up!” to news that the third installment of the beloved Princess Diaries film franchise by Disney has just been confirmed.
The announcement comes 20 years after 2004’s “The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement”.
Rumors about the third movie have been making rounds online since 2019, and even Hathaway herself has expressed her longing to return on set as it “changed her life”, as she previously mentioned in an interview.
Malaysian screenwriter and producer Adele Lim, best known for her work in Crazy Rich Asians and Raya and The Last Dragon, will be the director of the third movie.
“As a diehard fan of the original Princess Diaries, I’m beyond excited to be a part of bringing the third iteration of this beloved franchise to life. We look forward to celebrating its core tenants of female power, joy, and mentorship with audiences worldwide,” Lim shared with Deadline.
The much-anticipated Part 3 of Princess Diaries is a continuation of Queen Amelia “Mia” Mignonette Thermopolis Renaldi’s life in the small fictional kingdom of Genovia.
The first two films, adapted from Meg Cabot’s best-selling novels, were directed by Garry Marshall, who passed away in 2016.
Fans were ecstatic that their long-standing appeal for a new film from the franchise has gotten a green light.
Meanwhile, confirmation about Julie Andrews and Chris Pine’s participation has yet to be released. Andrews, now 89, played the role of Queen Clarisse Renaldi, Hathaway’s on-screen grandmother, while Pine played the blue-eyed Lord Nicholas Deveareaux, Anne’s love interest in the second film.
From the lines of the 2004 film’s soundtrack by pop singer Myra, “Miracles happen once in a while, when you believe.” Well, this is truly the miracle we won’t ‘shut up’ about!
