Former Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo was officially transferred to the Pasig City Jail Female Dormitory on Monday morning, September 23, after being held at the Philippine National Police (PNP) Custodial Center at Camp Crame, Quezon City.

Guo, who is facing charges of qualified human trafficking, now shares an overcrowded cell with 44 other detainees.

According to Jail Superintendent Jayrex Joseph Bustinera, spokesperson for the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), Guo was transferred to the Pasig City Jail at 9:33 AM after leaving the Camp Crame detention facility at 8:49 AM.

The transfer had initially been scheduled for Friday, but was delayed due to pending requirements, including Guo’s medical assessment by the PNP.

Guo’s new dormitory cell is designed to accommodate only nine inmates, yet it currently houses 45 detainees, far exceeding its intended capacity.

The facility includes ten triple-deck bunk beds, creating tight living conditions.

Among Guo’s fellow detainees is a member of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ, whose leader was recently arrested in connection with separate charges.

Due to these overcrowded conditions, Guo’s legal team had expressed concerns for her safety and hoped she would remain in the custody of the PNP.

However, despite security concerns, the transfer proceeded as part of the legal process.

Alice Guo is scheduled to face arraignment for her qualified human trafficking charges on September 27, 2024.

The Pasig City Regional Trial Court (RTC) will conduct the hearing at 8:30 AM via video teleconferencing, which will allow her to remain at the detention facility during the proceedings.

The charges stem from her alleged involvement in human trafficking activities, a case that has drawn widespread public attention.

If convicted, Guo faces serious penalties under Philippine law. Her legal team is expected to prepare a robust defense during the upcoming arraignment.

Guo’s dismissal as mayor of Bamban, Tarlac, and subsequent detention is linked to her involvement in a qualified human trafficking case.

The transfer to Pasig City Jail marks a significant development in her legal battle. This case continues to be closely monitored, as it not only affects Guo’s political career but also reflects broader concerns regarding human trafficking in the Philippines.

The overcrowded conditions at the Pasig City Jail have become a point of concern, particularly as detention facilities across the country struggle with space and resources. The legal process will continue as Guo awaits her next hearing, with the court proceedings expected to bring further clarity to the case.
