The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) is currently investigating a high-ranking Philippine Air Force (PAF) officer who has been accused of rape by two junior officers.
According to AFP Public Affairs Office Chief Colonel Xerxes Trinidad, there is already prima facie evidence supporting the allegations, warranting further legal action.
Reports indicate that the unnamed senior male officer was formally charged at the prosecutor’s office following complaints of sexual assault filed by two junior officers.
The incident allegedly occurred on January 29 after a night-out event, with the victims filing their complaint the following day.
Acting PAF spokesperson Cherri Pie Fernandez confirmed that a similar case is being investigated by the AFP General Headquarters.
Fernandez emphasized that the PAF does not tolerate any form of misconduct by its personnel.
In response to the allegations, the AFP confirmed that the accused officer has been relieved from his position.
Colonel Trinidad added that the approval from the appropriate authority is still pending before the case can be formally handed over to the General Court Martial.
He assured the complainants that their rights will be protected and that steps are being taken to ensure they are safeguarded from any intimidation or undue influence during the legal process.
