The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) is on heightened alert despite no monitored major security threats this holiday season.

According to AFP Spokesperson Col. Francel Padilla, the military is currently maintaining a heightened state of alert.

The military has also increased its support to other law enforcement agencies to ensure a peaceful Christmas celebration.

Padilla stated that soldiers are deployed at checkpoints and are also assisting in security at ports, bus stations, and even malls.

Despite their reduced numbers, the AFP is also monitoring communist insurgent groups or the NPA, even though they no longer have the capacity to launch large-scale operations.

However, the military is not underestimating their forces, as these groups could still regroup and cause disturbances in certain areas.

Meanwhile, despite the Christmas celebration, Padilla said that the military remains focused on its mission, especially guarding the country’s territory, particularly in the West Philippine Sea.
