Vice President Sara Duterte confirmed that she will comply with the summons issued by the Senate impeachment court.
In an interview in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Duterte stated that her defense team is preparing their response to the summons.
The Senate impeachment court served the summons to the Office of the Vice President headquarters in Mandaluyong City on June 11.
The document contains seven articles of impeachment sent by the House of Representatives, requiring Duterte to submit her response within 10 days, without extension.
Senate President Francis Escudero also ordered Duterte to appear at the Senate Session Hall in Pasay City at a date and time set by the Presiding Officer.
However, a member of the House prosecution panel questioned the summons’ clarity.
Impeachment prosecutor and Oriental Mindoro First District Rep. Arnan Panaligan pointed out that before summoning Duterte, the Senate had returned the impeachment articles to the House for correction due to legal infirmities.
He explained that subpoenas typically include the formal charges that the accused must address upon receipt.
