World’s oldest person dies at 116, as Inah Canabarro Lucas, a nun from Brazil, passed away on Wednesday in the city of Porto Alegre.

Canabarro held the title of the world’s oldest living person after the death of Japanese woman Tomiko Itooka, who was also 116, in January.

Born on June 8, 1908, Canabarro was honored by longevity tracking organization LongeviQuest and was widely admired for attributing her long life to her unwavering faith in God.

Her passing was announced by the Congregation of Teresian Sisters of Brazil, who thanked her for her lifetime of “dedication and devotion” as a nun.

The title of the world’s oldest person is now held by 115-year-old Ethel Caterham, a resident of Surrey, England.

Canabarro had previously received a papal blessing from Pope Francis on her 110th birthday; the pontiff also passed away earlier this week at the age of 88.
