In an interview with Bombo Radyo Bacolod, Miravalles said authorities attempted to negotiate with Police Master Sgt. Larry Junio before entering the scene.

However, Junio had already shot his partner, Maicah Redil, multiple times, though she was still heard pleading for help.

The negotiation lasted over an hour before police stopped receiving any response from Junio.

Authorities then requested clearance to enter the house, which the mayor immediately approved.

Mayor Miravalles personally joined the police in entering the residence, where they struggled to open the door due to Junio’s body blocking the entrance.

Upon entry, they discovered that Junio was already lifeless.

Miravalles confirmed that Redil still had a pulse when they found her, but she was declared dead on arrival at the Valladolid District Hospital.

The victim suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the body, including a fatal head injury.

The mayor revealed that he had previously met Junio, who had been assigned to the Valladolid Municipal Police Station.

Miravalles described Junio as a generally mild-mannered officer.

Junio had faced an administrative case and was suspended before being reassigned to Iloilo City Police Station 5 in Mandurriao, Iloilo City.

Miravalles assured that the municipal government, through the Department of Social Welfare and Development, will provide necessary support to the bereaved family as part of their duty.
