Lawmakers have dismissed former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s claim that President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. will declare martial law and remove Vice President Sara Duterte to stay in power, calling it baseless and false.
House Deputy Majority Leader and La Union Rep. Paolo Ortega labeled the former president as “Mr. Fake News” over his statement.
Lanao del Sur Rep. Zia Alonto Adiong downplayed Duterte’s remarks, stating that while the former president is entitled to his opinion, the case against the vice president has strong legal grounds.
Adiong emphasized that the charges against Vice President Duterte are based on alleged misuse of confidential funds and threats against high-ranking officials, not political maneuvering.
He urged the public to focus on critical issues and not be misled by political tactics aimed at diverting attention from the case.
Adiong reiterated that matters of constitutional accountability should not be mixed with electoral politics.
