THE Department of Education (DepEd) is currently investigating 12 private schools suspected of listing “ghost students” as beneficiaries of the government’s Senior High School Voucher Program, despite their whereabouts being untraceable.

According to a report by Raffy Tima on State of the Nation, the Senior High School Voucher Program provides financial assistance to students enrolled in private senior high schools.

Incoming Grade 11 students from public schools automatically receive vouchers ranging from P14,000 to P22,500.

Meanwhile, students from private schools who are not beneficiaries of DepEd’s Education Service Contracting Program can apply for inclusion in the voucher system.

Education Secretary Sonny Angara emphasized the gravity of the allegations, stating, “We take these allegations seriously. Any misuse of public funds will not be tolerated.

This investigation is crucial in uncovering the truth and holding those responsible accountable.”

As part of its response, DepEd is considering the revocation of the accused schools’ accreditation and is gathering evidence against those involved.

Angara also mentioned that legal actions may be pursued against individuals found guilty of wrongdoing.

The department urged the public to report any irregularities in its programs via walangkorapsyon@deped.gov.ph.
