The Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) has identified 1,955 barangays across the Philippines as prone to landslides and flooding.

The report follows the impact of severe tropical storm Kristine, which highlighted the vulnerability of these areas.

The province of Cagayan recorded the highest number of high-risk barangays, with 802 marked as landslide and flood-prone.

Other provinces listed as at-risk include Batanes, Isabela, Negros Oriental, Apayao, Kalinga, Ilocos, Occidental Mindoro, Palawan, Aklan, Antique, Iloilo, and Negros Occidental.

The assessment was based on a Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model, measuring rainfall at 100-mm and 150-mm thresholds.

MGB advised the public to monitor their areas, particularly following two to three days of continuous rain, which can trigger landslides.
