Filipino tennis sensation Alex Eala has once again showcased her prowess on the Grand Slam stage, securing a dominant straight-set victory against Ukrainian tennis player Oleksandra Oliynykova, 6-1, 6-4, to advance to the third round of the US Open qualifying tournament.
Eala immediately asserted her dominance in the first set, giving Oliynykova few opportunities on Louis Armstrong Stadium.
Although the Ukrainian managed a slight recovery in the second set, Eala maintained control of the match, preventing it from reaching a deciding set.
This victory held particular significance for Eala, as Oliynykova had previously defeated her in the Strasbourg tournament in May.
Beyond the revenge win, this marks a new milestone for the Pinay tennis star, as it is her first time reaching the third round of the US Open qualifying, surpassing her second-round appearance last year and building on her historic 2022 US Open girls’ singles title.
As the 17th seed in the qualifying draw, Eala is set to face the winner of the match between Francesca Jones of the United Kingdom and Iva Jovic of the United States.
