Philippine Vessel Collides with Chinese Militia Ship During Routine Patrol Near Pag-asa Island

A Philippine vessel was grazed by a Chinese fishing militia ship during a routine maritime patrol in the vicinity of Pag-asa Cay, according to the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR).

The incident occurred five nautical miles from Pag-asa Island in Barangay Pag-asa, Kalayaan, Palawan.

The Philippine ship, BRP Datu Cabaylo, was hit by a Chinese Maritime Militia vessel bearing bow number 00108 while en route to Pag-asa Island on October 11.

According to BFAR, the Chinese vessel struck the front part of the BRP Datu Cabaylo, resulting in minor dents.

Despite the collision, the BRP Datu Cabaylo continued its patrol mission around the Pag-asa Cays.
