The Kalinga Police Provincial Office has classified the ongoing tribal conflict between the Basao and Biga Tribes in Kalinga Province as an isolated case.
In an interview with Bombo Radyo Cauayan, PCapt. Ruff Manganip, spokesperson for the Kalinga Police Provincial Office, said that the Provincial Bodong Council of Elders and the City Council of Elders are taking steps to prevent the situation from escalating.
Despite the tribal conflict, PCapt. Manganip stated that the peace and order in the area remain manageable.
He also warned against false information circulating on social media and group chats regarding alleged killings due to the tribal war.
Additionally, he addressed rumors about tribe members allegedly entering schools, which have caused unnecessary fear among local tourists and impacted the region’s tourism industry.
To prevent further tension, authorities have set up checkpoints, with the help of barangay officials, in areas where the tribes are involved to ensure peace.
The Bodong Council of Elders is preparing to mediate between the two tribes once tensions subside.
Meanwhile, affected students have started returning to school.
