A 30-year-old woman in southeastern China survived a horrific knife attack after her breast implants prevented a fatal chest wound, sparking nationwide discussions about public safety.

The incident occurred on May 22 at The MixC Shopping Mall in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province.

The victim, identified only by her surname, Ma, was ambushed by a male stranger while entering her car.

According to Ma, the assailant forced his way into the vehicle, held her at knifepoint, and demanded that she pay for the parking before coercing her to drive to Tongxiang County.

The attacker then attempted to extort money, insisting that Ma borrow funds from her friends after learning her bank account had little balance.

While he was distracted, Ma managed to text her boyfriend, who tracked her location and alerted the police.

When officers from Chongfu police station in Tongxiang confronted the suspect, he stabbed Ma 22 times in the chest before turning the weapon on himself.

He died from his self-inflicted injuries despite emergency treatment, while Ma survived due to the implants absorbing several potentially lethal blows.

“We counted over 20 stab wounds. Fortunately, my breast augmentation surgery saved me. The implant blocked what could have been a fatal stab — only one wound reached my lung,” Ma said.

Ma has since been discharged from the hospital but criticized authorities for closing the case following the attacker’s death, saying she feels justice was not served.

“It feels unresolved. I have lived in Hangzhou for a long time and always felt safe. It just feels like I was unlucky to encounter him,” she told one media source.

The case has gone viral on Chinese social media, with many users both shocked by the brutal attack and astonished by the role of her breast implants.

One commenter wrote, “Who would have thought breast implants could save a life? The plastic surgery clinic deserves a thank-you banner.” Another said, “This sounds like a movie plot. Public safety measures must be tightened to prevent tragedies like this.”
