- Severe Winds: TCWS No. 1 may be raised over parts of the Cagayan Valley by late evening or early morning tomorrow. Authorities warn that the highest wind signal that may be hoisted could reach TCWS No. 4. Areas such as Catanduanes, Batanes, Quezon (including Polillo Islands), Camarines Norte, and northern sections of Camarines Sur should brace for strong to gale-force gusts from tomorrow through Friday.
Coastal Hazards
Mariners are advised to exercise extreme caution as high seas and dangerous conditions prevail:
- Ilocos Norte and Northern Ilocos Sur: Seas up to 4.0 meters make travel risky for all types of vessels.
- Batanes and Cagayan (including Babuyan Islands): Waves reaching up to 3.5 meters are expected, posing threats to small seacrafts.
- Isabela and Northern Aurora: Seafarers should be vigilant as waves could reach 3.0 meters, affecting maritime operations.
For other areas along Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, moderate sea conditions of up to 2.0 meters are expected, and smaller vessels should take necessary precautions.
Track and Intensity Outlook
Tropical Storm Ofel is projected to continue moving west-northwest until Thursday evening before turning northward.
It is expected to reach typhoon strength by tomorrow evening or early Thursday morning and may make landfall over Northern or Central Luzon later that day.
The storm is predicted to peak in intensity before hitting land.
Residents in Northern Luzon should prepare for potential heavy rainfall, strong winds, and storm surge impacts, while Central and Southern Luzon must remain vigilant for any southward shifts in Ofel’s path.
Local officials urge the public to stay informed and heed weather updates as conditions may rapidly change.
