Vice Mayoralty Candidate’s Group Ambushed; 2 Dead, 3 Injured

Two people were killed and three others injured in an ambush in Barangay Paigoay, Marogong, Lanao del Sur, on Saturday, December 7, 2024.

Brig. Gen. Romeo Juan Macapaz, director of Police Regional Office-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region, confirmed the deaths on Sunday.

The fatalities were identified as retired police officer Solaiman Alibasa and his companion Hadji Asrap Sandab.

Marogong police reported that Alibasa, Sandab, and three others were traveling to Malabang in a red Toyota Innova when the attack occurred.

Gunmen stationed along the highway in the remote village of Barangay Paigoay opened fire on their vehicle.

The injured were identified as Sanaoray Alibasa, Sarpia Mangayao, and retired police officer Ramil Bao.

Emergency responders and police rushed the injured victims to the hospital for immediate treatment.

Authorities are coordinating with local officials in Lanao del Sur to identify the suspects and file appropriate charges.
