Typhoon Shanshan unleashed heavy rainfall across Southern Japan, causing widespread disruptions.

Before making landfall, the storm had already dumped approximately 20 inches of rain, with more expected to fall, along with strong winds and high waves in the coastal areas of Miyazaki, Kagoshima, and Ehime prefectures.

As the typhoon made landfall today, power outages affected 66,000 households in Kyushu. Additionally, 6,000 homes were evacuated due to excessive rainfall and strong winds.

This is in addition to the earlier evacuation of 800,000 residents in Kagoshima prefecture.

As of Thursday, August 29, the typhoon maintained wind speeds of 70 meters per second (252 KPH).

Hundreds of domestic flights have been canceled today, particularly those passing through Southern Japan.

Initial reports from Japan indicate that one person has died during the typhoon’s onslaught, several others are reported missing, and some have been injured. Authorities are still verifying these details.
