Subic landslide incident claimed the lives of two individuals after a collapse of soil buried four workers at the Tipo High‑Tech Park along Tipo Road SCTEX inside the Subic Bay Freeport Zone in Zambales.
Authorities confirmed that four people were affected by the landslide, with two survivors rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment.
The fatalities were identified as a Chinese national employed by a company inside the Subic Bay Freeport Zone and a Filipino dump truck driver, both later declared dead at medical facilities in Olongapo City.
Initial investigations by the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) revealed that the incident occurred around mid‑morning and was triggered by non‑stop heavy rains that caused soil erosion and the collapse of a retaining wall in the area.
Rescue teams from SBMA, volunteers, and the Philippine Red Cross were immediately deployed to conduct search, retrieval, and medical assistance operations at the site. Traffic flow along Tipo Road near SCTEX was affected as clearing operations and continued investigations were carried out to determine the structural failure that led to the landslide.
Authorities assured the public that preventive measures will be implemented to avoid similar incidents as heavy rains persist in the region.
