Two Dead in Separate Landslides in Cebu City

Cebu City was struck by tragedy as two separate landslides claimed the lives of at least two individuals in Barangays Tisa and San Jose.

Shurnila Ibuña mourned the loss of her 17-year-old daughter, Jemimah, who was buried in a landslide in Sitio Canduloy, Barangay Tisa, around 3 AM on Sunday, September 1, 2024.

Jemimah, who was about to celebrate her birthday, was trapped under the rubble and could not be rescued despite the best efforts of rescuers and neighbors.

Initial investigations revealed that at least nine families and over 20 individuals were affected by the incident.

In a separate incident, a 26-year-old woman, Claire Dosdos, was also killed when a landslide hit Purok 5, Barangay San Jose, around 11:20 AM on the same day.

Despite being rushed to the hospital, she was declared dead on arrival. Three other members of her household, including a 4-year-old and a 6-month-old, were injured in the incident.

Approximately 15 individuals from four families were affected by this landslide.

Cebu City Councilor Joel Garganera immediately mobilized the Department of Engineering and Public Works and the Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office to respond to both incidents.
