Tuguegarao May Experience Highest Temperatures This Year – PAGASA

The highest temperatures in Tuguegarao this year could reach extreme levels, according to the state weather bureau.

Romy Ganal, senior weather specialist of PAGASA Northern Luzon, stated that the city may experience a “danger level” heat index of 42°C or higher from mid-April to May.

Ganal explained that while Tuguegarao is one of the hottest areas in the country, it does not immediately reach danger-level heat indices in March.

This is because Tuguegarao is situated in a valley where cold air does not easily escape, but once it dissipates, the heat becomes trapped for a prolonged period.

Due to this phenomenon, other areas such as Dagupan in Pangasinan, Puerto Princesa in Palawan, and parts of Western Visayas have recently recorded higher temperatures.

To help affected areas prepare, PAGASA has been releasing a two-day heat index forecast, particularly for cases where class suspensions may be necessary.

Meanwhile, Ganal noted that by the second or third week of March, the northeast monsoon (Amihan) may officially end, marking the beginning of the dry season and the arrival of easterlies, which bring warm air.
