Walz and his daughter Hope visited Tiabi Coffee & Waffle during their most recent visit to Las Vegas.

The Democratic vice-presidential candidate had a productive discussion with leaders of the Asian American and Pacific Islander communities, as well as business owners.

“It’s such a great honor to talk to a great leader about what’s happening to small businesses,” Tiffany Biscoe, who runs the shop, said. “Decisions made in the White House and with Congress affect us all on a national [and] local level as well.”

Walz additionally utilized the occasion to meet with Filipino-American leaders and share his personal experiences in the Philippines throughout his military service.

Margie Gonzalez, a Fil-Am community leader, stated, “It’s good because he engages with the people here. He’s game. He has no walls and is down to earth. He claims that when he was in the Philippines, he knew how to communicate with the individuals he met.”

Also, Joel Enriquez, a Fil-Am community leader, remembered his meeting with Walz.

“When I introduced myself as the president of the Chamber of Commerce, he said right away that he went to the Philippines when he was deployed in Asia,” Enriquez told me. “He is very happy. And most of all, we got to know Hope.”

Nevada Assemblyman Duy Nguyen believes the Asian American community deserves ongoing focus and support, not only during election season.

“It’s great that Governor Walz and the Harris-Walz campaign are doing a lot more community outreach, which is important,” a local legislator remarked.

“The Harris-Walz campaign is doing a better job in making sure that the AANHPI community, which is the largest voting block here, knows that our community is important.”

Nguyen is excited to see how the Harris-Walz team intends to increase funding for small firms, with a focus on developing possibilities and supporting entrepreneurial growth.

Nevada has cast votes for Democratic candidates in recent elections, with President Joe Biden narrowly defeating former President Donald Trump in 2020.
