Three Children Dead, Four Injured in Landslides Amid Super Typhoon Uwan

Three minors were reported dead while four others were injured after landslides buried their homes during the onslaught of Super Typhoon Uwan in Nueva Vizcaya.

According to Alvin Ayson, spokesperson of the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) Region 2, among the fatalities were five-year-old twin siblings. Three others were injured when their house in Sitio Poblacion, Barangay Balangabang, Kayapa, was buried by collapsed soil.

Kayapa Police Station said the landslide occurred at around 2:30 AM while the victims were asleep with their parents and another sibling, when soil suddenly engulfed their home.

The father, with the help of neighbors, tried to rescue the twins and rushed them to the nearest hospital, but they were declared dead on arrival.

The parents and one child are currently recovering in the hospital, while the remains of the twins have been brought back to their barangay.

In a separate incident, a 10-year-old Grade 5 student died and a 12-year-old Grade 6 student was injured after another landslide struck in Kasibu, Nueva Vizcaya.
