Suspect in the Murder of 18-Year-Old in Basak San Nicolas Arrested After Robbery Incident

CEBU CITY – A suspect involved in the robbery and shooting of an 18-year-old in Alumnus Asupwa, Barangay Basak San Nicolas, is now in custody at the Mambaling Police Station.

The arrested individual, identified as 24-year-old Bryan Fernandez, is a resident of the same barangay where the crime occurred.

Authorities recovered a .45 caliber pistol and three live rounds from Fernandez, which are believed to be the murder weapon used in the shooting death of the victim.

Fernandez confessed to the crime, claiming that the money and mobile phone stolen from the victim were intended for his daily food expenses.

According to reports, Fernandez and another still-at-large suspect initially intended to rob the victim but resorted to shooting when the young man fought back.

It is also noted that Fernandez has a previous conviction related to illegal drug possession in 2022.

The victim, identified as John Lloyd Delos Reyes Bejec, was fatally shot by two armed suspects during a robbery on Friday night, September 27, 2024, where he was robbed of his mobile phone and cash amounting to P3,600.
