Super Typhoon Uwan Now at Signal No. 5 in Bicol and Nearby Provinces

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported that Super Typhoon Uwan continues to bring life-threatening conditions over the Bicol Region as it moves west-northwestward over the coastal waters of Camarines Norte.

As of 1:00 p.m., the eye of Super Typhoon Uwan was located 135 kilometers north-northwest of Virac, Catanduanes or 100 kilometers northeast of Daet, Camarines Norte, with maximum sustained winds of 185 km/h near the center, gusts of up to 230 km/h, and central pressure of 935 hPa.

The typhoon is moving west-northwest at 30 km/h, with strong to typhoon-force winds extending outward up to 900 kilometers from the center.

PAGASA has raised Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 5 in parts of Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya, Nueva Ecija, Aurora, Polillo Islands, northern Camarines Norte, northern and eastern Camarines Sur, and northern Catanduanes, warning of extreme threats to life and property.

Signal No. 4 is in effect over southern Isabela, Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya, Ifugao, Benguet, La Union, Pangasinan, Aurora, Nueva Ecija, parts of Zambales, Tarlac, Pampanga, Bulacan, Rizal, Quezon, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Albay, and Catanduanes.

Signal No. 3 covers Metro Manila, Cavite, Batangas, Laguna, Marinduque, Sorsogon, Ticao and Burias Islands, Northern Samar, and large portions of Cagayan Valley, Ilocos, Cordillera, and Central Luzon.

Signal No. 2 is raised over the rest of Cagayan, Apayao, Ilocos Norte, Mindoro provinces, Romblon, Masbate, Eastern Samar, Samar, Biliran, and northern and central Leyte.

Signal No. 1 is in effect over Batanes, northern Palawan including Calamian, Cuyo, and Cagayancillo Islands, the rest of Leyte, Southern Leyte, Bohol, Cebu, Negros, Panay provinces, Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte, and parts of Agusan del Norte and Surigao del Sur.

PAGASA warned of heavy rainfall, destructive winds, and storm surges that may affect areas far from the landfall point, urging residents in high-risk zones to evacuate and follow local government advisories.

The typhoon is expected to pass near Calaguas and Polillo Islands before making landfall over central Aurora tonight or early Monday, then cross Northern Luzon while weakening but remaining a typhoon.

By Tuesday, Uwan is forecast to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), move toward Taiwan by Thursday, and weaken further before dissipating near the Ryukyu Islands.

The public is advised to monitor official bulletins, heed evacuation orders, and take all necessary precautions to protect life and property.
