House Speaker Martin Romualdez assured officials of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) of Congress’ full support for their proposed 2025 budget, which includes a P350 daily allowance increase for soldiers.
The statement was made during a courtesy call by 17 AFP Flag Officers and Generals at the House of Representatives.
Speaker Romualdez held a meeting with top-ranking AFP officials to discuss the military’s priorities and challenges.
He emphasized the importance of providing adequate resources to the AFP to safeguard national security and maintain peace and order.
Romualdez described soldiers as the backbone of the country’s security and defense system.
The AFP officials expressed gratitude for the Speaker’s continued support, particularly for the AFP Modernization Program and the welfare of soldiers.
AFP Deputy Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Jimmy Larida said the officials appreciated the opportunity to meet with Speaker Romualdez and discuss key issues.
The AFP Generals present included Lt. Gen. Augustine S. Malinit, Inspector General of the AFP; Rear Adm. Jose Ma. Ambrosio E. Ezpeleta, the newly installed Philippine Navy chief; Rear Adm. Alan M. Javier, Chief of Naval Staff; and Maj. Gen. Adonis Ariel G. Orio, the new 8th Infantry Division Chief.
During the meeting, AFP officials updated Speaker Romualdez on operational priorities, including disaster response, counter-insurgency efforts, and the implementation of the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP) for former rebels reintegrating into society.
