One person was killed and two others were injured after a soldier opened fire inside the 5th Infantry Division Camp Melchor Dela Cruz, Upi, Gamu, Isabela.
The suspect has been identified as Sgt. Mark Angelo Ajel, 32, a member of the Philippine Army assigned to the 503rd Infantry Brigade in Tabuk City, Kalinga.
The victims were Rolando Amaba, a van driver from Brgy. Santa Cruz, Benito Soliven, Isabela; Erlinda Ajel, 35, the wife of the suspect and a vendor; and Lolita Ramos, the suspect’s mother-in-law, both residents of Yeban Sur, Benito Soliven, Isabela.
According to information gathered by Bombo Radyo Cauayan, Gamu Police Station’s investigation revealed that gunshots were heard from inside the victims’ Hyundai Grace van while it was parked inside the camp.
Upon hearing the shots, Sgt. Rommel Narag and Staff Sgt. Perfecto Prudencio immediately retrieved their issued firearms and approached the vehicle.
As they got closer, they saw the suspect holding a gun and immediately arrested and handcuffed him.
Erlinda Ajel was rushed to IDGH in Ilagan City, while Lolita Ramos was taken to Providers Medical Hospital for medical attention.
Meanwhile, Rolando Amaba was declared dead on the spot at the crime scene.
The suspect, along with the firearm used, has been turned over to Gamu Police Station.
