Billy Ponce, head of Buguey’s Municipal Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), stated that the family, including the victims’ parents, visited the resort for a swim on the morning of June 8, 2025.

According to relatives, the siblings did not join them for lunch, but they assumed the two were in another part of the resort.

Concerns arose when the family was preparing to leave and noticed the siblings were missing, prompting them to seek assistance from barangay officials and authorities.

Rescuers later found the pair embracing in the river.

Ponce explained that the siblings had unknowingly ventured past the resort’s designated swimming area and into deeper waters.

Authorities attempted to save them and rushed them to the hospital, but they were declared dead on arrival.

Due to the incident, Ponce announced the temporary closure of San Lorenzo Nature Spring Resort, managed by the barangay, citing safety measure deficiencies.
