Sen. Lito Lapid has extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of the three Filipino overseas workers who died during the recent severe flooding in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
The senator said the tragedy in Dubai serves as a reminder of the growing global challenges posed by climate change and its increasing impact on communities worldwide.
Lapid stressed that the risks faced by Filipinos working abroad to provide for their families should never be overlooked.
He also emphasized the need for both the public and the government to remain prepared in addressing emergencies and disasters whenever they occur.
The lawmaker recognized overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) as modern-day heroes who make significant sacrifices for their families and contribute greatly to the Philippine economy.
In response to the incident, Lapid urged the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) to immediately facilitate the repatriation of the remains of the deceased Filipinos.
He likewise called for the expedited release of assistance and support to the families left behind by the deceased OFWs.
