DILG Secretary Benhur Abalos has clarified the circulating photos on social media, showing him smiling alongside PNP Chief Rommel Marbil and fugitive Alice Guo.

In an interview, Secretary Abalos explained that after Alice Guo was turned over to their custody, she requested a private meeting with PNP Chief Marbil, which was also attended by Indonesian officials.

During this meeting, Guo revealed that she had been receiving death threats. Due to the sensitive nature of her statement, it was recorded by Gen. Marbil.

Abalos recounted that while the meeting was taking place, a photo was taken to document the event.

He said that he looked at the camera, unaware that Guo was making a playful gesture in the background, leading to the photo appearing as if they were posing for a picture together.

Abalos firmly denied that a selfie had been taken.

Despite the criticisms he received, Abalos emphasized that the most important thing was securing Guo’s return to the Philippines to face the charges against her. He also noted the difficulties they faced in Jakarta, as there was no certainty that Guo would be brought back.

Abalos concluded that Guo is now in custody at the PNP Custodial Center in Camp Crame.
