Sarrat Cemetery Damaged, Families Evacuate as Typhoon Julian Hits

LAOAG CITY – The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) has confirmed that Typhoon Julian caused damage to a cemetery in the town of Sarrat.

According to Marvin Ganal, head of the MDRRMO, a portion of the cemetery collapsed due to the ongoing typhoon.

Ganal added that they are continuously monitoring the situation and coordinating with local barangay officials while Typhoon Julian continues to batter the area.

The collapsed section of the cemetery has been cleared, and the affected families have already been informed.

In addition to the cemetery, a few other structures were damaged, but immediate clean-up efforts have been carried out.

The MDRRMO also reported that some barangays experienced flooding, leading to the evacuation of one family from Barangay 3.

Ganal confirmed that several infrastructures were damaged, and the agricultural sector sustained partial losses, with an estimated ₱2 million in damage, mainly affecting rice fields.
