Several residents of Villa Ventura in Aglipay, Quirino sought refuge in a cave last night to avoid the dangers brought by Super Typhoon Uwan.
In an interview with Bombo Radyo Cauayan, evacuee Jane Fernandez Yacapin said they chose to stay inside a cave behind their home instead of going to the evacuation center.
Fernandez explained that they were not afraid because the cave has always been their safe haven during strong typhoons.
Three families gathered inside the cave at the height of the storm.
She added that by 6:00 PM they had already entered the cave before the typhoon’s full impact was felt.
By 9:00 PM, strong winds and heavy rains battered the area, but the families remained safe inside the cave.
Although some water and mud seeped inside, they laid bedding on elevated flat rocks to stay dry and secure.
Fernandez assured that they informed barangay officials of their decision through a group chat to avoid being fetched for evacuation and to ensure their safety while inside the cave.
