The Quezon City Regional Trial Court (QC RTC) today, September 4, 2026, issued a warrant of arrest against Vice President Sara Duterte in connection with multiple grave threats cases she is reportedly facing, a development that intensifies scrutiny on the country’s second-highest official.

Following the court’s order, Atty. Paul Lawrence Lim, legal counsel for the Vice President, promptly released an official statement addressing the matter.

Lim emphasized that despite ongoing discussions regarding the court’s jurisdiction over the cases, the Vice President has no intention of evading the legal process or fleeing.

“Regardless of the question on jurisdiction, she has no intention of evading the law and will continue to exercise all her legal remedies,” the lawyer stated.

The Vice President’s camp reportedly intends to utilize all appropriate and available legal remedies to address and respond to the legal issues presented in court.

This new legal challenge emerges amidst an ongoing impeachment trial against the Vice President, a process that typically begins with complaints filed in the House of Representatives and, if successful there, proceeds to the Senate for trial, reflecting heightened political tensions surrounding her administration.

The impeachment court trial, now on its 21st day this Wednesday, saw former Department of Education (DepEd) Undersecretary Michael Poa, who also serves as one of Duterte’s lawyers, presented as a key witness, potentially shedding light on matters related to her previous role as DepEd Secretary and the controversies surrounding her tenure, such as the confidential funds issue that has previously drawn public scrutiny.
