Various members of the local hog industry and allied sectors have united to reassure the public about the safety of consuming pork amid concerns over African Swine Fever (ASF).
In a statement, the group emphasized that pork is safe to eat, poses no health risks, and that ASF does not endanger humans.
The group issued this statement following a decline in pork demand as consumers have been avoiding it due to ASF fears.
According to the group, many hog raisers, vendors, markets, and even restaurants and eateries are suffering losses due to public hesitation over pork consumption.
Alfred Ng, Vice-Chairman of the National Federation of Hog Raisers (NFHFI), pointed out that their primary concern now is preventing the spread of ASF to other provinces.
The group advises consumers to look for the veterinary certificate seal from the National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS) or city veterinarians when purchasing pork.
