The Philippine government will continue its military capability upgrade, including the possible acquisition of intermediate-range missile launchers from the United States.

The Department of National Defense (DND) Secretary, Gilberto Teodoro Jr., revealed plans to procure U.S. missile systems as part of enhancing the country’s military.

He stated that the upgrade will focus specifically on the U.S. Typhon missile system.

Teodoro emphasized that the world is aware of who is on the right and wrong sides regarding disputes in the West Philippine Sea.

He argued that the Philippines cannot heed advice from those who distort the truth, adding that no one believes them anyway.

Teodoro underscored that international law, in addition to Philippine law, supports the country’s stance.

In April, the U.S. brought its Typhon missile system to the Philippines as part of the “Balikatan” war games between Philippine and American troops.

Teodoro asserted that China has no say in the country’s plans, stressing the need to defend Philippine territory if necessary.

He added that the Philippines remains compliant with international law.
