Fishermen and mariners in the waters near Philippine Rise and Catanduanes have been advised by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) to exercise caution due to a recent rocket launch by China.

According to an advisory issued by the NDRRMC, China’s Long March 4B rocket was launched between 9:16 and 9:43 AM on September 3 from the Xichang Satellite Center in the Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan province.

Debris from the rocket is anticipated to fall approximately 243 nautical miles from the Philippine Rise and 318 nautical miles from Panay Island, Catanduanes.

As a result, warnings have been issued to sailors, fishermen, and others to remain vigilant against the potential danger posed by falling debris.

The NDRRMC has also urged local disaster risk reduction management councils in the affected areas to closely monitor developments within their jurisdiction.

Additionally, the Philippine Space Agency has warned the public against collecting or picking up any rocket debris that may be found. The agency stated that the debris could pose a health and safety risk, and advised that it be reported to authorities instead.

A similar warning was issued by the Philippine Space Agency in August following another Chinese rocket launch, with debris feared to fall in the waters off Ilocos Norte and Cagayan in Northern Luzon.
