Army Chief Lt. Gen. Roy Galido Honored with U.S. Legion of Merit Medal

Lt. Gen. Roy M. Galido, Commanding General of the Philippine Army, has received the U.S. Legion of Merit (Degree of Commander) Medal.

The award, presented on November 11, 2024, in Washington D.C., recognized his efforts to strengthen Philippine-U.S. defense ties.

The U.S. Legion of Merit is one of the top honors given by the U.S. Department of the Army to military and political leaders of allied nations.

Since assuming his role in August 2023, Lt. Gen. Galido has driven modernization efforts, acquiring advanced capabilities for the Philippine Army.

His leadership has ensured that the Army remains equipped to counter threats, deter adversaries, and engage effectively with multinational forces.

Lt. Gen. Galido emphasized large-scale training, including the inaugural Army-wide Combined Arms Training Exercise (CATEX) “Katihan.”

He has also bolstered collaboration with the U.S. Army through high-impact joint exercises like “Salaknib” and “Balikatan.”

Lt. Gen. Galido joins esteemed Filipino leaders such as former President Fidel V. Ramos in receiving this prestigious medal.
