A fisherman who had been drifting at sea for 46 days was rescued by the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) near Batanes and is now in stable condition.
Robin Dejillo, from Infanta, Quezon, was found weak and dehydrated by PCG personnel during a routine patrol between Itbayat and Basco, Batanes. He is currently receiving medical care at Batanes General Hospital.
According to Ensign Myles John Palisoc of PCG Batanes, they spotted Dejillo’s boat during their patrol.
Upon approaching, they found the fisherman too weak to speak and immediately provided him with water before rushing him to the hospital.
Dejillo recounted that his boat had run out of fuel, leaving him stranded at sea.
He survived by drinking rainwater, coconut water, and eating fish. His family had reported him missing on August 4.
The fisherman’s wife is expected to arrive in Batanes tomorrow, and an air ambulance may be arranged to transport Dejillo back to Infanta, Quezon, once he is fit for travel.
