The President shared optimism about inaugurating the subway’s first phase—from Valenzuela to Ortigas Station—by 2028.

“If we can finish this all the way to Valenzuela, maybe we can inaugurate it in 2028,” said Marcos in Filipino during the site visit.

He emphasized the massive time savings the project could bring, noting that once complete, travel time from Valenzuela to NAIA could drop from over two hours to just 40 minutes.

Marcos praised Japanese engineers for their leadership in the construction, commending their efficient operation of the tunnel boring machine.

He underscored that choosing Japan as a partner was the right decision given their expertise in modern rail systems.

“If we can improve this phase all the way to Valenzuela and complete it, the current travel time from Valenzuela to the airport is around two to two and a half hours. That will be reduced to just 40 minutes. That’s a major improvement if this gets approved,” (Ito ‘yung ating Subway Project na mapabuti natin hanggang itong phase na ito hanggang Valenzuela.
