Over 133,000 Affected by Widespread Flooding in Mindanao Due to ITCZ Rains

The number of people affected by widespread flooding across major parts of Mindanao has risen to 133,612 due to heavy rains brought by the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ).

According to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) – Disaster Response Management, the total represents 44,037 families displaced or affected by the severe weather.

A total of 123 barangays have been identified as having experienced flooding based on the latest DSWD data.

Currently, 1,038 families or 3,179 individuals remain in nine designated evacuation centers across the region.

Meanwhile, more than 1,300 families, equivalent to 5,346 people, have opted to temporarily stay with relatives while the floods persist.

DSWD also reported that 28 houses have been declared totally damaged, while 86 homes have sustained partial damage.

Authorities expect the numbers to change in the coming days as assessment and validation in affected areas continue.
