Motorcycle Rider Dies in Collision With Cyclist

A motorcycle rider died following a collision with a cyclist in Barangay 14, San Gregorio, San Nicolas.

According to P/Capt. Randy Damo, Chief of the San Nicolas Municipal Police Station, the victim was identified as Melvin Aquino, 44, a resident of Barangay Nagbacalan, Paoay.

The cyclist involved was identified as Gener Barrayuga y Miguel, 60, married, and a resident of Barangay Raraburan, Laoag City.

Based on initial investigations, the cyclist, heading in the opposite direction, suddenly veered into the motorcycle’s lane, causing the collision.

The cyclist sustained injuries to his left leg, while the motorcycle rider suffered severe head and facial injuries and was brought to Mariano Marcos Memorial Hospital and Medical Center in Batac City but was pronounced dead on arrival.

P/Capt. Damo reported that both parties have agreed not to file charges, and the victim’s family decided to accept assistance for funeral expenses instead.

Authorities noted that while the motorcyclist was not intoxicated, he was not wearing a protective helmet during the incident.
