A large portion of the country is expected to experience rains today, June 23, as the southwest monsoon continues to affect Philippine weather patterns.

According to the 4:00 a.m. forecast from PAGASA, cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms will prevail over Metro Manila, CALABARZON, BARMM, SOCCSKSARGEN, the Davao Region, Pangasinan, Zambales, Bataan, Occidental Mindoro, and Palawan.

The rains, attributed to the southwest monsoon, may trigger flash floods or landslides in low-lying and mountainous areas.

Meanwhile, the rest of the country can expect partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated thunderstorms, also due to the prevailing monsoon winds.

A tropical depression located 2,495 km east northeast of extreme northern Luzon remains outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).

The system packs maximum sustained winds of 55 km/h near the center and gusts up to 70 km/h, moving northwestward at 20 km/h.
