A man suspected of involvement in vote-buying was intercepted at a checkpoint in Barangay Lutao, Bacong, Negros Oriental, just days before the election, raising concerns about potential electoral fraud at a vote-buying checkpoint in Negros Oriental.
Authorities discovered envelopes containing cash in ₱100 and ₱500 denominations along with sample ballots, prompting suspicion of vote-buying activity, according to the Philippine National Police (PNP).
Although the man was immediately released, officials confirmed that the complaint will still be forwarded to the Commission on Elections (Comelec)’s Kontra Bigay Committee for investigation.
Meanwhile, preparations for Monday’s election are in full swing, with poll watchers and teachers mobilizing for their respective duties.
Official ballots and automated counting machines were turned over on Sunday, while materials were transported by boat to island communities under police, local official, and coast guard escort.
In remote areas, dump trucks escorted by soldiers were used to deliver election equipment to ensure safety and accessibility.
