A man suspected of orchestrating a recruitment scam involving the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) was arrested by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) during an entrapment operation in Manila on May 22.

Authorities identified the suspect as alias “Morris,” who was apprehended after receiving money from PCG applicants under false pretenses.

According to CIDG Chief Police Major General Nicolas Torre III, the suspect posed as someone with inside connections to the PCG, offering guaranteed recruitment and selection in exchange for a payment of ₱350,000.

The suspect allegedly promised automatic acceptance into the PCG, defrauding applicants by exploiting their desire for secure government employment.

He now faces charges under the National Prosecution Service for violating Article 315 (Estafa/Swindling) of the Revised Penal Code due to false pretenses and fraudulent representation.

The CIDG has reminded applicants not only to the PCG but to all government agencies to direct their concerns to legitimate authorities and immediately report any suspicious offers to prevent being scammed.
