Magnitude 5.0 Earthquake Jolts Davao Region, No Damage Reported

A magnitude 5.0 earthquake in Davao shook parts of the region on Monday morning, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).

The earthquake was recorded at 9:42 AM and had a depth of 15 kilometers, with a tectonic origin.

Its epicenter was pinpointed five kilometers southwest of Matanao, Davao del Sur.

The quake was felt at Intensity V in the cities of Digos, Magsaysay, Matanao, and Bansalan in Davao del Sur.

Intensity IV shaking was reported in Hagonoy and Santa Cruz, Davao del Sur; Davao City; Kabacan, Kidapawan City, and M’lang in Cotabato; Malungon in Sarangani; and Tampakan and Tupi in South Cotabato.

Intensity III was experienced in several areas, including Antipas, Arakan, Magpet, Matalam, President Roxas, and Tulunan in Cotabato; Alabel, Glan, and Malapatan in Sarangani; Banga, Koronadal City, Polomolok, and Tantangan in South Cotabato; and General Santos City.

Lighter tremors were reported at Intensity II in Jose Abad Santos, Davao Occidental; Libungan, Cotabato; Norala, Surallah, Santo Niño, and T’Boli in South Cotabato.

At Intensity I, the earthquake was felt in Don Marcelino, Davao Occidental; Banisilan, Cotabato; and Lake Sebu, South Cotabato.

Instrumental intensity readings showed the strongest shaking at Intensity VI in Digos City, Davao del Sur, and Intensity V in Matanao and Magsaysay, Davao del Sur.

No immediate reports of damage or casualties were released, but authorities continue to monitor the situation for any aftershocks.
