CEBU CITY – Mactan Cebu International Airport officially launched ‘Abiba Sugbo’ on August 22, aiming to win the prestigious Skytrax Award for Best Airport Staff.

Skytrax is renowned as the most prestigious award-giving body in the aviation industry recognizing excellence in various aspects of airline and airport services. Managed by Skytrax, a UK-based consultancy specializing in the aviation sector, these awards are determined through global surveys of travelers. Key categories include:

  1. Best Airport – Evaluates overall airport quality, including services, facilities, and staff.
  2. Best Airport Staff – Recognizes exceptional service from airport personnel.
  3. Best Airline – Awards airlines for their overall performance, including cabin service, onboard amenities, and staff.

Skytrax awards are prestigious due to their comprehensive, passenger-based assessment process, making them a benchmark for excellence in the aviation industry.

The launch event was attended by Cebu Governor Gwen Garcia, along with delegations from St. Petersburg and several local officials.

In his speech, Julius Neri Jr., General Manager and CEO of Mactan Airport, stated that the launch of Abiba Sugbo marks the beginning of their ambition to transform the airport into a truly world-class facility – not just the best airport in the country, but in Asia and globally.

Neri emphasized that achieving this goal would require the collective effort and cooperation of everyone involved.

Winning the Skytrax award for Best Airport Staff would not only enhance the airport’s global reputation but also elevate its status as a leading gateway in the Asia-Pacific region.

Additionally, Neri highlighted that earlier this month, Skytrax awarded their International Terminal 2 a 4-star rating, marking a historic achievement as Mactan Cebu is the only airport in the country to receive such recognition.

The award is expected to motivate the entire airport community to elevate their service standards for travelers.

Mactan Cebu International Airport has also previously won several international awards, including Asia’s Best Airport in Airport and Destination Marketing in the under 5 million passenger category in 2023.
