Two police officers tragically died after being struck by lightning while inside the premises of the Regional Mobile Forces Battalion camp in Barangay Pinagsabangan last night.

Initial investigation from the Police Regional Office (PRO) 4B revealed that the incident occurred at around 10:30 PM, and it is suspected that the officers may have been parking their motorcycles when lightning struck.

It took over an hour before their fellow officers discovered the incident inside the camp.

The victims were rushed to a nearby hospital but were declared dead on arrival by attending medical staff.

Police Regional Office 4B director Brig. Gen. Roger L. Quesada expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and assured that appropriate assistance will be provided.

This incident echoes a similar tragedy in 2009, where two members of the Special Action Force died and six others were injured after being struck by lightning while setting up a radio antenna in the province of Abra.
