Lawmaker Calls for Strict Enforcement of 20% PWD Discount Notices in Restaurants and Other Establishments

FORMER Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan has called on government agencies to take action against establishments that fail to display notices informing persons with disabilities (PWDs) about their entitlement to a 20% discount.

Pangilinan expressed concern that many PWDs remain unaware of their benefits because numerous businesses are not complying with the law that requires visible signage detailing the 20% discount.

According to Rule IV, Section 6 of the Implementing Rules and Regulations of Republic Act No. 10754, businesses are mandated to place these notices in conspicuous areas within their premises to ensure PWDs are aware of their rights.

“Whether intentionally or not, many business establishments still do not follow this rule, causing many PWDs to miss out on their rightful 20% discount,” Pangilinan said in a statement.

He urged the National Council on Disability Affairs (NCDA) and the Persons with Disability Affairs Office (PDAO) to take immediate action and ensure penalties are enforced against violators.

The former senator emphasized that with the increasing cost of goods, the strict enforcement of this law would be beneficial for PWDs, helping them access the discount they are entitled to and easing their financial burdens.

Pangilinan’s call aims to ensure that businesses fulfill their responsibilities and help improve the lives of PWDs by adhering to the law.
