Senator Lito Lapid took to the Senate floor on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, to express his support for Senate Bill No. 2806, which aims to officially declare Pampanga as the “Culinary Capital of the Philippines.”

The bill, authored by Senator Loren Legarda, seeks to celebrate and preserve Pampanga’s rich contribution to the country’s culinary heritage.

Lapid emphasized that beyond its mouthwatering dishes, Pampanga is renowned for the resilience, ingenuity, and creativity of its people, attributes that have been key to their culinary excellence.

“We wholeheartedly ask for the support of our fellow senators to bestow this recognition upon Pampanga,” Lapid stated in his appeal.

If passed, the bill is expected to bring a host of benefits to the province and its residents.

The official designation could stimulate economic growth by attracting food tourism and increasing investment in the local culinary industry.

The potential influx of visitors would bolster local businesses, create more job opportunities, and inject a much-needed economic boost into the community.

Furthermore, the measure would promote cultural preservation, ensuring that the province’s celebrated recipes and cooking techniques are safeguarded for future generations.

It would also reinforce the pride and cultural identity of the Kapampangans, highlighting their significant role in shaping the country’s gastronomic landscape.

With Pampanga’s unparalleled contributions to Filipino cuisine, from sisig to tocino, the proposed recognition seeks to enshrine the province’s status as a cornerstone of the Philippines’ rich food culture.
