Kanlaon Volcano Raises Alert to Level 2 Following 13 Volcanic Earthquakes

Alert Level 2 remains in effect for Kanlaon Volcano as of Sunday, September 15, 2024, due to ongoing volcanic activity.

According to data from the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), 13 volcanic earthquakes have been recorded, accompanied by a significant sulfur dioxide emission rate of 10,880 tons per day as of September 12, 2024.

Volcanic plumes have also been observed as the volcano continues to inflate.

Phivolcs has reiterated its warning against entering the 4-kilometer Permanent Danger Zone due to the risk of phreatic eruptions.

An advisory has also been issued for aircraft to avoid flying near the volcano.

Residents are urged by Phivolcs to remain alert and vigilant regarding the volcano’s activity.

Kanlaon Volcano is located between Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental in the Visayas.
